The first woman to run and win the Boston Marathon has never dwelled much on the way other people do things. She ran that first marathon 50 years ago, in 1966, as an infiltrator; at the time, women weren’t allowed in the race. It would take the Boston Athletic Association six more years to register women to run, and three decades to officially recognize Gibb’s wins in the women’s category in 1966, 1967, and 1968.
